All The Small Things
Thursday 13 May 2004
It’s the little things in life that matter. That’s what they say, isn’t it? Anyway, to that effect I’m going to write about a few of the small things now, if I can muster the enthusiasm to do so and stay mildly on topic. Bear with me.
First off, let’s go with the Uni bit. Since my last (extended) post I’ve done two midsession quizzes, a few pracs, done some writing for my next folio (ten days to go, wheee!) and attended… most… of my lectures. Now, for detail.
Midsession for Biochem was cool. Studied a bit for it, got 13/20 - which, although not great, at least shows me that I’m kinda on target in the subject… I think I’m sitting on around 70% overall, which I’ll do my best to improve in the finals. Midsession for Chem now… gah. Ugly, ugly ugly. Still haven’t gotten my result, as one of the lecturers has swanned off to New York for some reason or other. But the answers I’ve received now… hrm. Let’s just say I’ll probably pass the course overall. If I work my arse off. ^_^
A bit now to address my folio piece. I’m doing a piece of dramatic fiction for my second folio - it was either that or poetry, and it’s easier to write assessable drama than assessable poetry. Anyway, I’m doing a rather amusing satirical/ironic piece on the nature of film (hollywood) versus theatre, and am wrapping it in with commentary on democracy versus aristocracy, some bits on gun control (US, for the interested) and a bit of social commentary.Read more on
Basically, it takes the form of a dialogue between two major characters and one secondary character, who’s there as a nexus/catharsis point. The three are a Hollywood screenwriter/producer, a theatre writer/dramatist, and a student who’s trying to decide whether he’d like to study writing for film or drama.
The play thus boils down to the two mains both ripping into each other, with various degrees of civility, as well as explaining/cajoling/lecturing/begging the student about their various industries. This might even allow me to use the term ‘commie fairy’ depending on how I feel. And, the only bad part is… I need to get it written, edited and completed by Monday week. And make it of 80% or higher standard, or I probably can’t do anymore writing courses. Which I want to do. Doable, I hope. As long as I don’t get caught up in it… and actually manage to keep writing it, I’ve been a bit procrastinationish about it recently. :)
Life outside of Uni… work is good at the moment. Both jobs, although the schools one is currently not doing much, at least not for the immediate future - being next week afaik. Woolies soldiers on, although I did finally get granted the mighty power of supervision numbers - which I’ve been trying to get for a very long time. And, I suppose, that kinda puts to rest my conspiracy theory about Woolworths, Service Supervisors and breasts. But not entirely.
At home, life ticks along. I have a new car - which is nice! Thankyou Grandad, so so much! He wouldn’t let me even pay for it off him, just gave it to me - so I bought him and Nan some DVD’s they like, and am thinking about a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black or something. We’ll see.
Anway, Mitsubishi Magna SE 1989, Auto/Power WIndows/Power Steering/Cruise Control/Central Locking (keylock) - which is a damn sight better than my old Datsun Sunny 1980 Manual… yeah. :)
Let’s see, what else. Anime? Hrm. Not much to report, apart from the fact that my collection has ballooned a fair bit. I’ll probably post a bit more about it next week, when May releases come out - there’s two things I want to get myself, but more on that later.
For now? I’m burning CD’s, listening to J-Pop (Yui Horie’s voice is one of the prettiest I ever heard, despite me understanding one word in 20 or so. And she’s cute, too. ^_^), playing with Invision Power Board (and tiptoeing around a few ASW issues) and reading Wilbur Smith again.
The joy that is life, eh?
Alcata’riel.
