Someday Dreaming
Saturday 29 May 2004
Just thought I’d post these here. I’m working up to writing a proper entry, but until then, enjoy the poetry component of my Writing Folio 2. :)
Someday’s Dreamer: Her
rnDawn. Birds call to rising sun,rnChildhood rushing, play,rnGreen leaves dappled shadows on verdant grassrnMoist rains, laughter, play, friends,rnCaressing breeze rnChasing fleecy clouds across sky,rnFreedom.
Hot, morning, vivid blue ocean,rnLong brown blonde hair, sunlight glistening fromrnGolden strands, turning, see him,rnStanding there, watching, smiling,rnHeart races, pounding in chest,rnHeat ripples off foaming waves, cascading into midday,rnShe smiles.
Older, middle aged, togetherness,rnArguments, friendships,rnLife beginning to drag her down. Children have come, children now go out intornAfternoon sunlight castingrnShadows on brown, crackling leaves, starkrnBranches waving in chill wind,rnReflecting her, depressed, older, unattractive, rnStanding near him, yetrnAlone.
Dusk, twilight melding into cold,rnElderly now, he is almost gone,rnStooped back, bent back, arthritis,rnChill. At times, it all feels like it was forrnNothing, rnIndependence fleeing, constrained, twisted in a rnCage of humanity and darkness. Cold. Snow. Ice on the windowpane. rnNightfall.
Someday’s Dreamer: Him
rnDawn. Light blossoms over hilltopsrnChasing dog through park,rnThrowing a ball, grass,rnGreen grass, watchingrnClouds in sky, faces, shapes,rnWarm on back,rnLethargic.
Warm, wet, gleaming water inrnSunlight, heat beating down,rnWaves foaming, coast to shore,rnSwim out, ride in, out, inrnAnd again. See her there, smile at her,rnBeautiful, hair, eyes,rnHer.
Together for a long time,rnShe is still beautiful, but different, olderrnI am older. Children leaving, girlfriend, boyfriend. Husband, wife, going, goingrnGone. Losing hair, fading light, touchingrnGhosts of leaves, chill wind,rnDusk.
Sunset, hair silver, gone. Agony, chest, fingers, no grip, weakness. Slow walk, walking stick, wheelchair, back. She is here. Her eyes are still beautiful. She isrnCrying, rnBed. Sheets. White linen. Pale ceiling. Cold. Frosted windows. Snow. No pain. Nightfall.
rn Someday’s Dreamers
rnDawn. Sun creeps over horizonrnGlistening dewrnRabbits dart into burrows, seernRunning laughing childrenrnGirl, boy, inseparable, long fast friendsrnLie back, watching sun rise nearrnFleecy pure white sheep on blue,rnFaces in the sky.
Sun grows higher in the sky,rnSurfboard, Beach towel,rnSunlight glistens on hair as she wavesrnHe sees her, notices her, talks to herrnThey leave, togetherrnSun beats down like an anvil onrnCrystal blue waterrnBeautiful.
Still together, through all the yearsrnSmall house, wooden floors,rnChildren, here, now gone,rnOlder, losing hair, streaks of greyrnVanity, dye, colourrnSee no change in each other, onlyrnChange in themselves,rnChill air fades in rnSetting sun.
Hair silver, hair gone,rnZest for life fading,rnHe is in pain, She is holding him,rnHe walks with a stick, She pushes his chair,rnShe sits by his bed,rnCrying. He strokes her cheek, he says it will be all right. They look out the window and see snow rnThrough the frost. She shivers with the chill. He feels no cold. rnHis eyes close. Nightfall.
