Nowra General Surgery, Day 20.
Monday 29 November 2010
Today I relearned how to make paper cranes.

A member of our student group at the GSM sadly died two weeks ago in a motorbike accident, and there is a memorial service held for him this coming Saturday morning - a religious ceremony for his parents, not for him, but regardless. His girlfriend (incidentally he, said girlfriend and family are Canadian) requested that people bring paper cranes - he was always making them, in fact he gave her one on one of their first dates - and so instead of working when class was cancelled this morning, Dell taught Meghan & I how to make paper cranes. It’s been a long time since I made any, but I think I made somewhere around 15-20 today and have achieved slightly sore fingertips… ah well. I was watching TV tonight with Katie and I made another one idly without even really thinking about it.

Otherwise, today was relatively uneventful. Treacherous drive to get to Nowra, a hell of a lot of rain, crane making and talking with Sarah (the Canadian GF), bacon, alcoholic patient volunteers, and some planning for a case presentation due on Friday. Tomorrow I might be more humourous, but I don’t feel quite inclined today.

Just keep quietly thinking about cranes.
