A Summer of Film
Wednesday 7 January 2009
Well. I’ve finally started what I wanted to do last summer - shoot another short film. For those who haven’t seen it, Looters of Troy, my past endeavour, was mostly a mockumentary short done for a birthday present with a rather apparent lack of seriousness (found mostly through odd music, random south park snippets, silly dialogue and stick figure artwork).
The new film, however, promises to be just a little bit more serious. A brief description would be: Three doctors from the seventies (in Oz) go hunting on one of their number’s farm/estates, are freaked out by weird stuff, and are attempted to be inducted into a cult of death and evils.
So yeah, it’s kinda a thriller with elements of horror. It’s based off a Call of Cthulhu adventure that my friend Lance ran a few years ago, but we’ve kind of pared a lot of the original back and I’m adapting it for the screen rather busily. We’re looking at something (at the moment) clocking in between ten and twenty minutes, which I admit is rather fluid, but due to the nature of the film and the amount of film I’m likely to have shot doing this I’d say a rough estimate of fifteen minutes might be unachievable depending on how much editing I do.
At any rate, this film is a work done by a group of my friends, who are working in various roles, both before and outside of the camera, and is being under the tag of ‘That Level’, due to an in joke from an old D&D adventure… in a virtual reality computer. So it’s a Moonlit Studios/That Level Productions work and the people involved are most convivial.
I myself am directing the piece, as well as writing most of the script and playing the token Crazy Man - who I have named Rex Inasnum, for the funny fact that it means ‘King Crazy’ in Latin. ^_^ I’m also using Celtx software for scriptwriting, as funnily enough, it makes me feel more professional to see the script actually formatted correctly - here’s a shot of the script environment:

And here is a movie poster I made up in Photoshop for the film. Yep, that’s the title (until we argue about it and maybe change it) but I think it looks rather spiffy for ten minutes of work ^^

I’ll post again soon with other stuff, but probably as this progresses as well. Take care, all. :)
