Elessar Telcontar Vinyamar - The Return
Friday 26 December 2003
Today was what we call a very, very good day. But then, it was a buildup from yesterday, so I suppose I’ll start there. ^_^
First off, Merry Christmas to all and sundry - hope Santa/whatever was good to you and you enjoyed yourselves tremendously. For myself, I picked up the box set of Neon Genesis Evangelion (I picked up the movie collection about two weeks ago) completing my Eva collection, and making me feel all warm and fuzzy. I’m currently watching the show, or will be after I finish this post.
Christmas was good… nice lunch with family, visited the other family as well. Have a few music/book gift vouchers to waste - which I’m looking forward to, of course! Caught up with some relatives, watched Monty Python’s Meaning of Life (great TV christmas movie, I’ve always thought!) and generally had a good time.
I went to bed after said movie - around one-ish. Then, the bad parts happened - my bed and light were overrun by small, irritating wingéd creatures, that we shall hereafter call ‘nasties’. The nasties’ were buzzing, swarming, and kamikaze-ing into my beside light - and taking small breaks on my pillows and quilt.
I was unimpressed. I went to fetch the flyspray - couldn’t find it. I then fetched bug repellant, and heartily dosed my bed and pillows - no effect. I then reverted to the tried and true methods - a paperback book and my fingers/palms.
Then, the majority of the insects disposed of, I proceeded to read some Agatha Christie (Hickory Dickory Dock, for the interested) and then attempted to sleep. Which was eventually successful.
Was woken at about 9 o’clock, vacuumed house, showered, shaved, then greeting my good friend Greg as he arrived with a charming young lady (~_^) named Amy as my transport to the cinema - to see the Return of the King! Hoorah!
Of course, it was a break in tradition - I couldn’t get tickets to the first Boxing Day showing - had to settle for the second, as the first was sold out - on the 10th of December. Go figure, eh? I suggest you to try the best elliptical trainer for the money.
Anyway, we went, we drove, we arrived, and we entered the cinema, finding seats down the very front - we were about half an hour early, the cinema was already full. Nuts. Anyway, the movie eventually started - two ads, two previews (Troy looks good :) ) and I sat down, and fell in love. Haven’t felt like that since last year… sniff.
The movie now… how best can I put this… fucking awesome. Just awesome. Not that I don’t have a few picky-picky points about it, but overall - wow. I really, thoroughly enjoyed the film - although, I must admit, listening to Amy’s sexual innuendo throughout parts of the movie were a bit weird - even though, due to my personal slants of mind, I could easily see where she was coming from - and even expand on it in whispered conversation. I was slightly put out in places - RotK was a semi-religious experience for me, and the mood was occasionally strained (OK, yes, I”m a nut. So?)
Doesn’t matter. I still love you Amy, if you ever read this. It was funny. Just - let’s not talk about Shelob and mummies again? Please? ^_^
I don’t want to say too much now - Eva is calling. Just this - see this movie. See it many times. Now. Later. Always. Go see it. Or else.
That is all. :)
